Several of the tales were too similar to each other to really merit separate explanations. Others I had never heard of before, or have since been debunked as pure folly since the book's publication

Readers will be surprised to find out that many of the sayings that we heard at Mother's knee are actually sound pieces of advice. On the other hand, some of them are not only false, they are actually damaging if followed as passed down.
